A focus is on families with children, seniors, people with no money. and the homeless. Many of the food assistance programs, including free drive thru food banks open today, acquire groceries and food products through donations from the local community. All items are given away to the low-income in St. Johns County.
Donations come from canned food drives, direct purchase, or other food bank programs. The St. John pantries will then distribute these grocery boxes to people who are in an emergency or crisis situation. Some pantries may even be able to deliver free food and groceries to people whose illnesses or disabilities make it difficult for them to leave home, and this is the Meals on Wheels service.
