While most of the centers are located in Knoxville Tennessee, locations are spread across the county. Some of the free food pantries are operated by local non-profit agencies, others by churches and government social service type organizations in Knoxville. The exact type of services and resources offered will vary by pantry, but they can be holiday food baskets, personal hygiene supplies, Meals on Wheels for the elderly or homebound and more.. Many of the locations also depend on the generosity of the community to keep them running. Income limits may apply, and resources are limited.

While most Knox County pantries will have groceries, food, government surplus commodities, and perishable items, some may be able to help in other ways as well. Locations may have clothing, diapers, household products, free baby formula for single mothers or even limited financial help for bills. Many serve free Thanksgiving as well as Christmas or even Easter dinners. Oftentimes a case worker can help people apply for government assistance too, like food stamps, school lunches, or WIC.
