Free Christmas and holiday assistance Fairfax County.

Find where and how to get free Christmas gifts, holiday food boxes, meals, and Thanksgiving turkeys in northern Virginia and Fairfax County. Parents that need assistance during the holidays, such as Christmas gifts from Toys for Tots for their children or help from Angel Tree, can get help. Find free decorations, Christmas trees, food, presents or meals from a wide variety of charities, churches and non-profit organizations listed below

A number of agencies, volunteer groups and even churches across the Northern Virginia as well as Fairfax County area provide holiday help to low income families and the working poor. There are free toys for kids, children from single mom or immigrant households and others in Fairfax County VA,

The holiday programs vary in what they can provide to families, and it may range from hot meals to gift baskets and toys such as Legos, video games, dolls and more Many also offer Thanksgiving turkey dinners or vouchers to Fairfax County residents. Some of the centers may deliver a meal to a senior or elderly person, including the homebound or someone in a hospital. Or there are ways to get Christmas gifts by mail or remotely. As a result of these various services, children from Fairfax County may be able to have a present to open at Christmas.

Northern Virginia Family Service

Both Thanksgiving and Christmas programs are administered by the charity / non-profit organization. They are involved in collecting food, toys, clothing, vouchers and more from the region. Those items are then passed out to qualified low income families, with a focus on children and the elderly. The toys are free to those that qualify.

A referral is needed in order to get assistance to their holiday programs. The Fairfax County Public School or the government can provide this if needed. The Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas programs they administer are a last resort. Applicants can’t be participating in any other services from another local church or charity. Annandale Christian Community For Action, or ACCA Inc.

Free gift baskets, food, Turkeys, and meals are offered at both Thanksgiving and Christmas time. There may be free books, clothes, Christmas stocking stuffers, matchbox or hot wheels cars, sporting goods and other presents for kids at Christmas.

 

 

 

Angel Tree and Adopt a Family from Salvation Army Fairfax Corps
Businesses and others from the community donate toys, clothing, games, shoes and other items. There are multiple Salvation Army centers in northern VA, as noted below. The goods are then provided for free to those that are less fortunate. The national non-profit matches low income children, infants and families with donors to assist them in receiving free holiday assistance, such as toys clothing, gift certificates, and food vouchers. They operate Angel Tree and give out free Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas food baskets from a pantry.

Herndon-Reston FISH

Free food baskets and meals may be served to the needy as well as canned items. It operates during both Thanksgiving as well as Christmas. There may also be small toys for children and teenagers as well as items for single moms or parents. FISH may also have clothing and other items for children from the community that qualify for help. Applications and registration is of course needed.

Ecumenical Community Helping Others-ECHO

This organization, supported by local faith congregations, distributes new games, clothing, toys and other goods at Christmas for client families with young children.  ECHO, on its own or through  local individuals or congregations, provides the groceries for families to make a festive holiday meal at Thanksgiving or Christmas.  ECHO serves a specific geographic area, but does not discriminate on any basis except for residency within the service area.

Toys for Tots Fairfax County
There are several places to donate, or to apply to pick up, free Christmas toys. They will be unwrapped. Games, books, electronics, Legos, sporting goods, clothes, tablets, and other presents are offered. Committee for Helping Others

Very limited resources. There may be free gift cards for shopping at places such as Wal-Mart or Target, food boxes, small toys or stocking stuffers for kids and other aid.

Catholic Charities churches
There are multiple parishes and churches. They help people regardless of faith, religion, age, or immigration status. Free food baskets (Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas) are offered and there are free Christmas toys giveaway programs, meals, and other goods. The non-profit community action agency offers many social services, one is a holiday program. There may be gift certificates, free toys, books, learning games, and clothes. They also offer grants for bills, job programs in Fairfax County, and other poverty fighting programs.

Lorton Community Action Center

This agency may have Thanksgiving meals, turkeys, and all the toppings. In addition, free gifts, food baskets and more is for families as well as senior citizens. Referrals to this Fairfax County resource are accepted from churches, schools, the Department of Family Services, and other groups.

House of Mercy Thrift Store and Food Pantry

Shop for low cost goods, such as electronic, furniture, Christmas or birthday toys, and other items. However there may be free canned or fresh food too, including baked goods and meat.

Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate

The main program is known as Reston Elf Store. There may be free Xmas presents for families, based on donations. This can include gift cards for shopping, winter clothes or coats for kids, learning games and other items.

Department of Family Services

They run an Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program for people on public assistance such as TANF cash aid or food stamps in Fairfax County. There may be free food, Christmas toys for kids, clothes and others goods. The holiday items depend on what is donated.
