Escambia County Catholic Charities emergency assistance programs.

Catholic Charities has locations that support Escambia County. There are multiple churches, assistance programs, churches that participate and other services. Whether it is a few dollars to pay rent or some money to pay utility bills, a free box of food, prescription drugs, and other financial aid, Catholic Charities of Pensacola offers help.

Most of the resources are part of the Emergency Assistance Program. Whether it is housing programs (rent/mortgage help) to stop an eviction foreclosure, medications for an illness, grants to pay utility or water bills, or other financial aid, Catholic Charities of Pensacola assists.

Emergency assistance from Escambia County Catholic Charities

Stabilization Services, including limited financial help, provide for the immediate needs of a client who is in a short term crisis. If the individual or family is in long term poverty, then just stabilization services is used as providing financial aid will not be effective in itself.

This form of support from Catholic Charities in Pensacola is for clients that are unable to provide essentials for daily living or that need guidance. There may be assistance such as free food, energy bill or rent help, free motel vouchers, prescription drugs and personal care items. The last category includes free baby food, diapers, detergent and formula, hygiene and cleaning products. In all cases, the client will meet with a Case Manager or Stabilization Specialist from Catholic Charities.

The process from the specialist will help the client identify available resources and services that can help them over the long term, as well as short term relief in stabilizing a financial crisis. While the financial aid is limited, the other services are available free of charge. The exact form of guidance given is based on current need.

New parents can get free baby supplies or goods from Matthew’s Nursey. It can assist for up to one year. There may be gift cards, baby bottles, wipes, blankets, formula, diapers and dozens of other items.

There does need to be an appointment made, and the help for financial need is income-based. Any applying household must provide picture ID and proof of address as well. Other support may also be required.

 

 

 

 

Volunteers from the Escambia County Catholic Charities client choice food pantry, also known as Caring Choice, provide a variety of goods to the needy. There will be enough groceries to last the household for 2 to 3 days, so they can prepare meals to feed their family. The pantry may have milk, fresh fruits or vegetables, dairy, meat, canned soup, and more.

Client choice means client can “self-select” the food packages they need. The client should bring their own bag or box to pack as well as they shop. Escambia County Catholic Charities helps immigrants as well as refugees. They can help people in the county as well as NW Florida become citizens, get green cards, learn about the process, and even get short term support such as housing. They assist with legal needs, notarize documents, and address employment. As Catholic Charities can help place people into work, training, or coordinate ESL classes.
