Low income and transitional housing programs Erie County and Buffalo.

Charities, churches, and government agencies in Erie County New York provide low income housing as well as the homeless with shelter. Also locate transitional housing programs, free motel or hotel vouchers and well as other short term housing programs. These resources, and others that are available, can also assist people facing imminent eviction. Assistance is also offered for individuals that are facing short or long term homelessness.

Much of the housing assistance is provided by non-profits, often working in partnership with government agencies. The demand for affordable and safe housing in the nation as well as the city of Buffalo (as well as the county) is very high. So the resources and availability is very limited. A waiting list will often be used for a homeless shelter or voucher program, including section 8.

The transitional housing programs are also for short term stays. When an individual uses the facilities they will be able to get help with finding a job, a hot meal, and assistance in locating a new, permanent home to live in. There are also referrals to emergency section 8 vouchers in NY when applicable. Social workers can also help individuals apply for re-housing and rent assistance when they are ready to move into a new apartment.
