Free clothing closets as well as furniture banks provide items to the low income, seniors, or disabled people. There will be winter coats, couches, appliances, computers and other goods. Many of the programs rely on donations so they have limited resources and they may also focus their help on children, single mothers and people faced with a crisis. The clothing closets and/or furniture banks in Buffalo or the county will be run from churches or charities like the Salvation Army. Get couches, washers or dryers, sneakers, boots, jackets, school or work uniforms and more.

There are also bargain items, and sometimes free vouchers, at a thrift store. The staff and volunteers at these Erie County centers are committed to providing the low income and people with no money or income support, including cheap or free stuff.

Also, during the cold western New York winters, many of the centers may provide free winter coats and boots to children. Other centers may focus on infants, pregnant mothers, and newborns. This is a social services organization. Offers advocacy & referrals; free clothes, and community food pantry. The center helps the low income and people faced with poverty get free stuff they need for their home or personal use. The non-profit provides job readiness, GED (Spanish & English), job placement, DSS worksite, English as a Second Language and computer classes. A thrift shop also sells low cost clothing, household goods, and furniture.

Some of assistance programs include a free clothing closets or vouchers. There is also Christmas Assistance from Angel Tree, free winter coats and boots, and a thrift store. There are also free back to school supplies and uniforms for students, book bags, notebooks, and other goods. Some emergency financial aid may be offered as well for bills other basic needs.

Salvation Army Thrift Stores are also available. There are many locations in western New York and Erie County. The public can shop there for gently used goods, including clothing, furniture, couches, fridges or refrigerators, and related items. The lowest income people may be able to get a voucher that they can use to receive their items for free.

Special seasonal programs may be offered during back to school supply drives or provide free gifts, clothing and birthday toys.
