Assistance programs in Dorchester County Maryland.

Salvation Army of Dorchester County Maryland, which is located in Cambridge and can be reached at 410-228-2442, offers a large number of resources and assistance programs.

  • Grants and financial assistance for paying bills and expenses - There is a limited amount of cash assistance that is offered for rent matters and utilities. Funds can be used to assist with legal evictions from housing, and money to pay utility and heating bill to avoid a disconnection. Money can be used to buy prescription medications as well.
  • Food Bank - Is located on site. Provides food at most once every 6 months, and the individual must have applied previously for food stamps. Locate additional Maryland food banks.
  • Thrift Store- Both clothing and furniture can be provided. Items may be free on a limited basis.
  • Shelter - If you are evicted, a shelter can house you under limited circumstances.
  • Utility assistance - Apply for help from the Good Neighbor Fund. The program may be able to offer financial assistance for paying utility bills. The program is for last resort assistance.
  • Holiday assistance - Thanksgiving and Christmas food vouchers can be provided. Also the program provides holiday assistance to low-income families in need of services around holidays.

Dorchester County Health Department is the place to call for medical or health care. A sampling of the services provided include immunizations, Head Start, Cancer screening services, and a key program being offering access to comprehensive primary care for financially qualified individuals who are also eligible for Pharmacy Assistance. Agape Food Pantry. This is a local Rhodesdale Maryland emergency food pantry that is available for residents of the community. Items provided by the pantry may include toiletries and personal grooming products as well. 410-943-4888

This is the local community action agency. They provide the low income with cash and forms of financial assistance. You need to apply and complete an intake form, but you may be able to get help for rent, mortgage payments, and energy bills.

Two of the key focuses of the agency, as well as Dorchester DCS, is on providing food as well preventing homelessness. So they have referrals to pantries or government aid such as SNAP food stamps. The state of Maryland also has emergency grants to pay rent for those income qualified residents with an eviction notice, or the homeless can receive assistance in paying a utility or rental deposit on a new, Dorchester County home.
