Catholic Charities assistance programs Dona Ana County and Las Cruces.

Catholic Charities of Dona Ana County offers a number of social services as well as assistance programs, both in English and Spanish. A focus is on helping immigrants (documented or not), but others can apply. Find everything from free food or hot meals to lawyers to help immigrants acclimate to the region. There are also referrals to housing in the Las Cruces, free household products such as furniture or cleaning supplies, some limited financial aid and other resources at Catholic Charities.

Anyone from Dona Ana County can apply for help, regardless of race, religion, age or language. Many churches partner with Catholic Charities as well as volunteers.

Free legal assistance, counseling, and job programs

Catholic Charities Immigration Assistance is for residents seeking citizenship in the United States. Direction/referral is given to the client on services to help them during the transition. The advice from the staff includes document translation, legal aid, and clerical assistance.

When it comes to immigrants in Dona Ana County, they will offer referrals to nutrition, housing and job programs, education, employment, childcare centers, mental health services, and more.  There is also English as Second Language classes for Spanish speakers, The goal is to help the family transition to living in New Mexico and the US as soon as possible.

A major focus of Catholic Charities is on helping immigrants in Southern New Mexico. There is also help for women fleeing from domestic violence, including safe housing. Full service adult education programs for qualified clients aged 17 years and older are available which will help people earn their GED and increase their learning skills. Case management from Catholic Charities in Las Cruces (as well as volunteers) will be involved in leading clients to a secure, financially supportive job. Students in the program work with a staff member as well on other issues like eliminating causes of instability, job placement and furthering their education.

Get financial help and free items from Dona Ana County Catholic Charities

Weekly, dozens of disadvantaged families from Dona Ana County receive pounds of free food and personal care items provided by Catholic Charity churches to eliminate the risk of hunger as well as to improve hygiene. Through the Food Pantry, a new distribution model called Client Choice Hybrid has been established.

 

 

 

-It allows income qualified clients and people facing a crisis to make their own choices that best meet the needs of their family.
-Low income clients are welcomed on a monthly or biweekly basis while they wait for food stamp notification.
-Catholic Charities in Las Cruces has also established a partnership with the regional Feeding America affiliates to offer on-site food stamp and WIC application program interviews.

As noted, both groceries and personal products are given out. These programs depend on donations. Even if Catholic Charities can't help, then referrals may be available instead.

When it comes to emergency financial assistance to pay bills, funds are limited. Based on donations, and the sale of goods from the Las Cruces Catholic Charities thrift store, there may be some money for everything from rent to deposits, car repairs, utility or water bills, and more.

There are also contributors, and grants from partners, such as the United Way as well as local churches. Or volunteers hold bake sales or tithe. Either way, if possible, Catholic Charities will try to assist with a focus on homeless prevention in New Mexico or hunger prevention as well as solving utility disconnections.
