Craven and Lenoir County food pantries.

There are several food pantries in the counties of Craven and Lenoir that residents can turn to for help. Many of them are operated by charities with some locations at churches. Clients come from all ages and backgrounds, and the food banks support the elderly as well as working poor or underemployed in the community. Services range from information on food stamps to summer snacks for children and more.

For those that are qualified, there may be a free bag of groceries passed out. The contents will vary by pantry and even by month. For example, there could be seasonal items for holidays such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. Or a New Bern area food bank could have fresh fruits or dairy goods.

The centers try not to turn anyone away. But the demand is great and resources are limited, so a resident may need to try multiple locations.
