Salvation Army program Clay County Missouri.

Families that are out of options can turn to the Salvation Army of Clay County for help. The non-profit focuses on assisting the vulnerable in the community with rent, energy bills, free Christmas toys or School supplies, substance abuse and so much more. There are also vouchers for gasoline (for local work) or other emergeny needs. Whether it is food or more seasonal aid such as a Christmas meal or toy for a child, the Clay County based agency will offer support or referrals in the Northland area

The funding for the operation of their programs comes from a couple main sources. There is the Red Kettle, in which people donate funds. The vast majority of the money raised, over 90%, is kept to fund low income programs they run. The non-profit is also involved in raising money from government grants or other organizations such as the United Way. Using these funds, some of the key services are as follows.

  • Utility disconnection – The Salvation Army may have money to help with electric, water, or heating bills for people with a shut off notice.
  • Vouchers for medications for the under insured or those with life threatening conditions in Clay County.
  • Housing, ranging from money for rent to emergency shelters.
  • Job placement and training services for the working poor or those with different needs, such as youth.
  • Homeless shelters in Clay County, including free transitional housing for the poor.

During the Christmas season, there may be free special holiday programs. Examples of them are the Angel Tree or Adopt a Family. While different by name and in the details of them, in general the Salvation Army partners with the community to collect toys and clothing for the less fortunate.

Qualified children from low income and unemployed families in Clay County can apply. Based on what has been contributed, there may be toys, games, gifts, clothing, and more during Christmas. The items will be personalized as well as the community uses a list to buy the goods for the child. Now, as a result of Adopt a Family, many children who would otherwise go without can receive a free gift.

Meals are also served during Easter, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Or the Salvation Army will have a holiday food basket. Another option will be a home delivered meal to a senior citizen, whether they are at home or in a nursing facility. All of these are used by the local Clay County Missouri centers to spread the joy.

Some of the other holiday services include Toys 4 Tots as well as Coats For Kids. These are mostly run in partnership with other groups, such as the US Marines or local churches and hospitals. In any cases the family can be given coats, gloves, hats, small wrapped presents and more.

Partnering with the Missouri Department of Human Services, the Liberty Missouri Salvation Army offers several housing programs. Each is combined with case management, which will allow a family the ability to have a home to live in for a short period of time. During their stay, they can take part in case management services, which can help with a job or other needs.

  • Salvation Army sponsored emergency shelters provide a night or two of lodging.
  • Transitional housing is for more mid length stays. Individuals can use the center for several weeks.
  • Low income families facing eviction can apply for funds to pay their rent, or at least a portion of it.
  • People that need to move can seek help from security deposit programs.
  • Care, counseling, and housing for drug or alcohol abusers in the region.

Low cost items from Salvation Army Family Store in Clay County

Clay County Salvation Army thrift stores sell items too. While they are a huge benefit to lower income residents, anyone can use the family stores. They sell furniture for people moving into a new home. Or the stores are a great place for clothing for school or the holidays. The Salvation Army locations can also provide other goods, such as appliances, kitchen utensils, and the like.

Free items are also given from the Family Store of the Salvation Army in Clay County. The goods will be from the thrift store and are for a crisis only. Or maybe a family recovering from a disaster, flood, fire, or similar. Or maybe women fleeing domestic violence can get items for a new home. Regardless, find free stuff from charities to help someone get reestablished.
