Salvation Army assistance programs Ross County OH and Chillicothe.

The main types of assistance from the Ross County Salvation Army include the following. However there are other programs that come and go, based on funding levels as well as other factors. Anyone that lives in the Chillicothe region, that is in need of help or guidance, can try the charity for assistance. The main resources include:

  • A food bank, which provides free groceries and household items a few days per week.
  • Programs for children, including the Salvation Army Angel Tree, free back to school supply drives as well as giveaways, and Thanksgiving meals. Or find other Salvation Army sign ups for Christmas help.
  • Self-sufficiency, case management, and counseling.
  • One time, emergency financial help for bills, rent, gasoline costs and housing needs.
  • Disaster relief and response.
  • A low cost Family or Thrift store which sells low cost beds, furniture, tables, kitchen supplies, computers and more.
  • Substance abuse programs in Ross County, including free Salvation Army drug and alcohol counseling.

Those are the five main categories of assistance. However the Salvation Army office in Chillicothe may offer other support throughout the year. Some new programs may start, just as some may end. There are also no guarantees to receiving support from the charity.

Information on social services

More details on each of the programs is below. The goal is to provide short term help to the applicant for their needs, whether it is money for a utility bill or box of food. This type of Ross County Salvation Army support is then combined with services meant to stabilize the situation.

On the premises will be a client choice food pantry. This is a little different than the more traditional distribution center that many people may be accustomed too. The way it works is that once someone applies for help (and is approved) they have more selection as to what type of food they want. This is in effect the Salvation Army in Chillicothe allowing people to “shop” for the groceries for their family.

The advantages are that it increases a client dignity and empowers them. They will not just be handed some random box of groceries. Instead they can shop for cereal, baby formula, meats, fruits, or whatever is available and whatever the family needs.

There are some instances in which the Ross County Salvation Army can help people financially. When this is a possibility, the assistance will be issued for several different types of expenses. The faith based charity may offer housing support, including partial rent or energy bills. Another category is for employment needs, and vouchers may pay for gasoline, bus passes, or work clothes. Lastly, medical needs, in particular expensive prescription drugs. The Salvation Army may use a voucher or refer the client to a pharmaceutical program.

The disaster relief is similar to the financial aid program. When someone has a fire burn down a house (or damage it), the Salvation Army steps up. They also assist in more natural events, such as floods, ice storms, or tornados. So many types of relief are arranged. Both free stuff as well as vouchers are often given to help with recovery in Ross County.

Teenagers, children, and young infants from struggling households can seek assistance. The Ross County Salvation Army does not want them to experience the same hardship(s) as their parents. So to help in these cases, they offer a combination of free holiday programs as well as other services. Children can receive free Christmas toys from Angel Tree or attend summer camps in the Chillicothe region. The programs also of course benefit the parent by freeing up their resources.

Children have other social services focused on them. Volunteers work at the Salvation Army office and mentor the kid to get them on the right path of education, development, and school. There is always a stress on homework and skills development.

Ross County Salvation Army development services not only benefit children (as noted above) but they also stress case management for the parent. Older adults can have their issue addressed as well, whether it is lack of employment, budgeting skills, or some other need. The service is organized by a combination of volunteers as well as professional staff. The Salvation Army also partners with professionals on debt and budgeting advice, and even find Ohio free credit counseling services.
