The Salvation Army in Charlotte County Florida will focus on offering basic needs to the less fortunate. Get funds to help pay bills from Salvation Army or its partners

The focus of the agency is on stopping poverty, hunger, and homelessness for otherwise self-sufficient families. This is a scenario in which emergency financial help may be offered. When a family from Charlotte County has been otherwise stable, but is now facing a temporary one time crisis, this is when the Salvation Army may help pay some of the rent, energy bills, or other housing expenses.

On the other hand, when someone is truly struggling and can't sustain their future rent payments on their own, then it will be more difficult to get financial aid. But the Salvation Army in Charlotte County will still be able to assist. They can refer these individuals to another local charity or church, including for gasoline vouchers or a motel room. As the charity works with many members of the community to coordinate resources.

Or if there is another reason for the hardship, such as unemployment or substance abuse, the social workers can help facilitate solutions for those needs as well. Harbor Lights/ARC is a national and statewide service for individuals that have a substance abuse issue, such as drugs or alcohol.

This Salvation Army program from the center in Port Charlotte can help these individuals. It gives the client a safe, healthy place to live. At the same time, the extensive counseling and guidance touches on employment, stability, and living a healthy lifestyle. The center can refer clients to this program.

Free material goods are also given as well. This is available from the thrift store as well as food pantry. Three other options for supplies are the clothing closet, Angel Tree Christmas gift program, and school supply program. • -Angel Tree Christmas gifts provide free toys, clothes, and other items to children during the holidays.
-A Clothing closet is same as the thrift store, but it differs in that the client is given a voucher to shop there, for free, for what they need.
  • -A free back to school supply drive from the Charlotte County Salvation Army gives kids the items they need to get them off on the right path for school. Whether shoes, notebooks, pens, pencils, or uniforms, free supplies may be given out.

An emergency homeless shelter is available. It is for short term stays only, but it can lead to more permanent housing placement as well. This will be what is known as transitional housing, and that is for a medium term housing unit. Both the homeless or people facing an eviction due to unpaid rent may use the facility.

There are many individuals who may stay in the short term housing units. The Salvation Army in Charlotte County will mostly focus on men. It will not only give them a meal, place to stay, as basic needs such as clothing, but case managers work to empower them. It can show a male how to be a good parent, coordinate counseling, and otherwise get them on the patch to stability.

Other temporary housing can be arranged as well. They will support individuals that need a place to stay if their house burned down or they have some other disaster. The shelters also support women with children, veterans, and there is also housing for senior citizens. So the Port Charlotte Salvation Army supports many different individuals with their housing needs.
