Free clothing closets, school supplies and furniture Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

Turn to a free clothing closet, furniture bank or thrift store in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County North Carolina. Find free clothes for general wear, furniture for a new home or apartment, back to school supplies, computers, personal or household stuff and many other items. Most of locations are run by non-profit organizations, charities, or churches.

Vouchers can be provided so low income families or children can obtain free goods, even diapers, beds for kids, or work or school uniforms. Or if you do not qualify for a voucher, then the general public can buy higher quality, but gently used clothes or furniture items from a thrift store or clothing closet.

Donations are always appreciated, and many of the centers rely heavily on stuff from the public. So if you can, please do contribute, and your donations will more than likely be tax deductible. Some of what may sold or given to Charlotte families include free clothing for work or school, hygiene items, shoes, diapers, medical equipment or cleaning products. Gently used furniture may be sold by many of the thrift stores. Some of the non-profits also offer employment serves or career counseling, refer to assistance programs such as places for free coupons or agencies can link people to places that offer more free stuff or social services.

A clothing as well as furniture bank is also available. This is one of Mecklenburg’s leading non-profits, and the center provides free or low priced clothing, school items, books, shoes, small basic furniture and other household items for free to individuals and families in need of assistance.

This agency can help people transition into the workforce by offering them free professional work attire. Career counseling is offered too. Services offered include one new suit for a job interview and a second suit when the client gets the job.

 

 

 

Some of the other items offered include skirt suits, undergarments, pant suits; blouses; scarves; unworn pantyhose and purses/briefcases.  The organization and its case managers can direct clients to local employment services, education programs, or training in Mecklenburg County. Services include a Children's Clothing Ministry. They are open on Monday's and Wednesday's from 9:45 to Noon. Shoes, belts, winter hats, free book bags or uniforms for students and other supplies are given to children of low income households.

Goodwill Retail Store @ Weddington - Goodwill Industries
There are several locations in Mecklenburg County, as listed below. Buy items such as furniture, clothing, personal hygiene items, household goods and more. Appliances and home furnishings may be offered. The working poor, homeless, unemployed, and low income can receive help. Goodwill provides low cost clothing, furniture and other household goods as well. People over 55 years of age can receive a special discount on certain days of the week.

This free furniture bank gives out much more than beds. There is other furniture for kids, single moms, and parents. Desks, cribs, lamps, chairs TV stands, and more may be provided, however the focus is on free beds and related items.

  • Another location is at 1800 Camden Rd. Suite 107-17, Charlotte, North Carolina 28203. This is a non-profit furniture bank that has free beds for kids and many other items. The goal is to help furnish the bedroom - house of a low income family with kid(s), including single moms or dads. Get lamps, dressers, kitchen tables, computers for kids (students), dressers, mattresses and more. The focus is on the bedroom set for children.
