Caldwell County North Carolina assistance programs.

Information on emergency programs, financial assistance for bills, and other aid

Lenoir based Caldwell County Yokefellow Inc. (phone number 828-754-7088) has its mission the goal of running programs that provide for the emergency needs of low to moderate income residents in Caldwell County and Lenoir North Carolina. They accomplish this goal by providing qualified individuals and families with free emergency food, clothing, financial assistance for paying for expenses which are primarily for fuel, utilities, heating oil, rent and medical bills. They also provide access to household goods.

In select, and carefully screened cases, DSS - Caldwell County (Emergency Assistance) may be able to provides emergency financial assistance and grants for paying bills for the individual and families in the county. The agency can help people cover basic needs and expenses in carefully screened cases that struggling individuals may face. Dial 828-426-8200.

Blue Ridge Community Action, Inc. serves the Caldwell County area. This non-profit organization runs several programs for the working poor and low income in the area. Not only do the administer several of their own programs for low income individuals in the area, they can also refer people to other local non-profits and government programs.

 

 

 

They include the Heating Appliance Repair and Replacement Program, which can provide or repair appliances. Weatherization can help people make their homes more energy efficient. In addition, they run an outreach assistance program may include providing emergency financial support for bills such as rent or energy expenses. This is for families in a crisis situation.

While financial aid from BRCA is very limited, staff and case managers do their best to help the elderly and any families that are less fortunate. Some of the other programs administered include meals on wheels, information on emergency eviction prevention, government grants from LIHEAP, and more. South Caldwell Christian Ministries (828-396-4000) offers numerous assistance programs. The organization, known as SCCM, serves the needs of elderly, working poor, and low people in Southern Caldwell County. They accomplish this goal through the cooperative efforts of the United Way, member churches, individuals, schools, local businesses, non-profit groups, the NC government, and the public. Assistance is provided to qualified individuals through diapers, clothing, financial assistance for paying bills, free food, fans, furniture, household needs, monthly food delivery to the elderly, school supplies, A/C (elderly or handicapped only), debt counseling, budgeting, referrals and follow-up. They can even advice residents on North Carolina debt collection laws.

Lenoir and Granite Falls Salvation Army - The faith based, Christian charity has a social service center in the community. This is where their assistance programs are run from. There are many forms of support given, ranging from free food to rent help, utility bill assistance, and emergency financial aid.

Material support and disaster relief is also arranged too in Caldwell County. So not only may the Salvation Army offer loans for paying rent or a security deposit, but they provide free food, clothes, and even Christmas toys for kids. So many services are available.
