Bradford County Pennsylvania assistance programs.

Find resources that can assist with paying bills

The local, non profit community action agency serves six rural counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania is TREHAB Community Action Agency. They have locations and offices in Bradford, Susquehanna, Sullivan, Tioga,  Wyoming, and Wayne Counties.

They offer low income and other struggling people with several resources and assistance programs. Some of the options for people in need are below. The non-profit combines a combination of loans with referrals to government grants.

Mortgage and Foreclosure Counseling and Assistance
This program provides packaging of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program for families and individuals who are facing a home foreclosure. The programs will help people who are experiencing short term hardships and a crisis, and it is not a welfare program. Find additional foreclosure assistance programs.

Heating and Utility Bill Assistance
Provides heating and utility assistance to assist customers who are behind on their bills. In addition, it also provides intensive follow-up and referral services. Some of the programs they offer from local utility companies include PPL on Track, the Pennsylvania Dollar Energy Fund, PPL Operation Help, Assistance from Valley Energy, and the Penelec Customer Assistance Program

Rent and Housing Services
This program will provide housing and rent related counseling, utility bill assistance, landlord and tenant mediation services and counseling. When there is funding, additional resources for Bradford County families ranges from housing relocation assistance, one time rental assistance, and emergency shelter if someone has been evicted or lost their home. Specifically, what they can offer is Emergency Food & Shelter Program, the Wayne County Emergency Fund, as well as the Homeless Assistance Program. They can funds for everything from a security deposit to other rent or mortgage needs.

 

 

 

 

Emergency Food Aid Program
This is for low to middle income families in Bradford and Towanda, and they can get help from this program, which provides food commodities and groceries. The resources are intended to give nutritional assistance to families as well as individuals who are facing food shortage-related emergencies and crises. The non-profit also has information on assistance programs from food pantries.

Weatherization Programs and Services
This energy savings program was created to help low and moderate income households save money on their energy and heating bills, increase financial independence address health and safety issues, and provide education in energy-efficient practices. Some of the free upgrades that are performed on peoples homes include: 

  • Free Insulation for attics Sidewalls and Floors
  • Furnace Tune-ups, Repair or Replacement (As part of the LIHEAP Crisis Program)
  • Caulking
  • Weather stripping 
  • Replacement of Windows

Another available resource is the Salvation Army social service department. The Towanda based charity, which is a Christian Church, helps the working poor as well as struggling members of the community. There may be some emergency funds for everything from heating bills to gas vouchers or food. Other programs provide toys, shelter to the homeless, and drug addiction counseling. But a focus is on self-sufficiency.

Case managers work with clients. They find solutions to the hardship. Then they follow up to ensure the client stays on track with this goal based process. Continue with the Bradford County Salvation Army assistance programs.
