Birmingham and Jefferson County short term housing and free homeless shelter.s

Residents have access to several low income and transitional housing programs in Jefferson and Shelby County Alabama. A few homeless shelters also operate in the Birmingham region. The locations provide families facing eviction and the homeless a place to stay over the short to mid term. However the main focus is on getting the individual back into a permanent home or apartment.

A key service offered is case management, counseling, and employment services. After all, having a job is key to maintaining housing and paying rent. Most of the Birmingham Alabama non-profits and housing programs will require participants to enroll into these self-sufficiency services.

The main agencies, government organizations, and short term housing programs are below. If a center can’t assist then they may have referrals to other resources, such as government subsidized apartments, homes, or the section 8 voucher rent assistance program.
