Free back to school supplies in Greater Birmingham area.

Low income families across the Birmingham Alabama region can get free back to school supplies including clothes, notebooks, backpacks, book bags, Chromebooks and many other items. There are school supply drives and giveaways that take place in the region, including Jefferson County as well as Bibb, Blount, Chilton, St. Clair, Shelby, and Walker County. Single moms or dads as well as two parent households can get, for free, the school items their children need. The list below is only a sampling, or find other free clothing closets in Jefferson County.

All sorts of supplies can be passed out, and it is based on donations. There may be notebooks, pens, pencils, backpacks, bags, tablets, and clothes (including shoes, pants, jeans, dresses, socks, etc.). Birmingham Alabama residents may also get free gift cards or certificates to shop at stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, and other places. Some students may be given free laptops or Chromebooks for online learning..

The free school supply giveaway events generally take place in the summer or fall are are for students from grades K to 12. However some charities or churches may offer year round assistance as well. Hours and resources vary.

Family Services Faith Based Charity - Jefferson County and Birmingham
The charity/church offers many social services and emergency aid. Clothes for kids (or parents or job seekers) as well as donated toys, school supplies, computers, tablets, and more. Jefferson, Shelby, Chilton County low income families can apply for Operation School Bell. There are books, pencils, school supplies for kids up through senior year in high school. Or get meals, food, and snacks. A national non-profit for the less fortunate, vulnerable, and immigrants among others.

Salvation Army Social Services in Greater Birmingham
There are location in Jefferson, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, St. Clair, Shelby, and Walker County. Free back to school supply events are held by the faith based charity. Donations and volunteers are always needed. Book bags, backpacks, notebooks, highlighters, games, and other help for students. My sister closet has items for young girls and older students too. They help women gain skills, assist students, provide free hygiene items and other support. The focus is on education and breaking the cycle of poverty.
