Action in Community Service of Prince William assistance programs.

A leading non-profit agency is Action in Community through Service of Prince Willia, otherwise known as ACTS. Case managers from the organization will try to help the low income with their bills and basic needs. There may be emergency aid as well as other support for clients, such as shelter, and programs are run in the Greater Prince William County Area of Virginia. This will also be for the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.

Financial aid to help pay bills

The Emergency Assistance Program program from ACTS is the main resource that provides basic life essentials to income qualified residents of eastern Prince William County. This was created to help those who are in crisis.

Whenever possible, the non-profit will coordinate financial assistance to those who have received disconnect notices for utilities, including water, electric, gas, oil, propane, and sewer bills. ACTS may also help by offering emergency prescription assistance for the uninsured. Free goods are part of the Thrift Store, and some people will get vouchers for clothing and household items. Also, hunger prevention and food assistance is available through the ACTS Pantry, and emergency support will also include free financial education classes as well as information on topics show as programs for saving money.

The food Pantry furnishes supplemental groceries and food assistance up to once a month to qualifying Manassas as well as eastern Prince William County families. Additionally, in the fall of each year, the Pantry sponsors Operation Turkey, which is when they will be supplying free Thanksgiving dinners to thousands of eastern Prince William County. The Pantry is located inside the Family Services Center, at 3900 ACTS Lane in Dumfries Virginia.

In an effort to reverse and end homelessness, the Housing Services solutions offers one time rent help as well as sustainable housing and shelter programs. Action in Community Service will follow a hands-on approach toward assisting clients with securing housing in towns such as Manassas and gaining stability in their lives.

 

 

 

Specific housing services include intensive goal setting, case management and educational programming. Basic needs are addressed to, such as free clothing vouchers, employment search support, referrals to programs operated by ACTS and partnering agencies. There is also Housing First homeless services. All this, and more, are also available through the Housing Services Program.

Emergency Homeless Shelters are in Beverly Warren and Hilda Barg Virginia. The locations provide short-term housing for single individuals and families. The shelters also offer guests free 24 hour-a-day room and board; intensive case management; life coaching; and access to job training. There is also the use of computers for the purpose of locating work and affordable housing in the region, and single parents can use the day care assistance for those who meet program requirements.

In addition to all of that, residents of the shelter will also have access to an array of courses on relevant topics that include financial planning, how to increase job readiness skills, computer training, parenting, and resume writing. These services help with long term housing stability.

Also, as part of the ACTS program, the Adopt-a-Day lifeline service gives local groups and individual s from the community the opportunity to help shelter residents by providing a day’s worth of meals and after-school snacks. The ultimate goal of the Emergency Homeless Shelter Program is to support the residents’ efforts in becoming self-sufficient and gaining independence from government assistance.

Transitional Living is a multi-faceted housing type program that provides families with all of the tools necessary for gaining self-sufficiency as well as economic independence. This long term course of intensive case management focuses on vocational, educational and job-skills instruction. It is used to assist clients as they learn to maintain permanent housing and gain financial stability.

The Utility Bill Assistance Program assists residents of eastern Prince William County who have received shut-off notices from their gas or electric company. The center that runs this is located at the ACTS Family Assistance Office in Dumfries, and there may be grants for people in Dumfries, Woodbridge,  Triangle, Quantico Virginia, and also and Occoquan.

Referrals are provided by the Helpline. This emergency/crisis line ensures that callers always have someone who will listen when they call, and staff can refer people to everything from shelters to food programs. In addition to simply listening to what callers have to say, operators provide information about and referrals to appropriate services, and call the line at 703-368-4141.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Senior Link from Action in Community Service of Prince William County provides reassurance calls to the elderly, seniors and homebound adults. These service will be scheduled at the recipient’s convenience on a daily or weekly basis, and is free of charge, and provides an opportunity for regular social contact, companionship, and encouragement.

The Adult Advocacy Program focuses on safety of domestic violence survivors, both women and children, in Woodbridge and Manassas. There is a goal of helping them break the cycle and begin abuse-free lives. This is accomplished through individual plans for safety, counseling and participation in support groups. Housing as well as legal support are also arranged by ACTS.

Low cost or free items from Action in Community Services Action Agency

A Thrift Store is located at the above referenced Emergency Homeless Shelter on Main Street in Dumfries. The location, which is open to the public, stocks gently-used clothing, appliances, furniture, school supplies and household items, all at reasonable prices. All Thrift Store proceeds support ACTS services and programs, and the money can be used to help feed a family or maybe stop an eviction from occurring.

Qualifying clients of ACTS’ service programs are furnished with Thrift Store vouchers that can be used in place of payment for needed clothing or household items, so some people are given free goods. There is also a free Christmas assistance programs in Prince William County. All donations of items that are in good condition are welcome, and volunteers can always be useful to help run the store as well.
