Emergency assistance from the Matthews Help Center is offered too. They also provide free or low-cost stuff to the public. The Greater Charlotte Jewish Federation offers some referrals and assistance to people of all religions. Some of their other resources are more focused. They do this by offering work skills, education including interviewing, resume writing, case management and job readiness skills. Short term rent and utility assistance may be offered to prevent an eviction or disconnection. Other resources include food pantry, transitional housing, and elderly and disabled assistance programs. Carolina Lutheran Services focuses on homeless prevention, homeless shelters, and transitional housing. Much of the assistance they offer is done is in coordination with other government resources and local Charlotte housing programs. Summer cooling assistance - When the temperature hits 90 degrees or higher, many people struggle to stay cool. Transitional housing from Friendship Community Development is for women, children, and the homeless. Not only can people receive a place to stay for a period of time, but the organization offers guests other support as well.
