Get help with paying Louisville Gas and Electric bills and keeping the gas and lights on. Programs from LGE include direct financial assistance, payment programs, government grant money and free energy saving programs like weatherization. There are funds to pay a deposit and to help prevent a shut off. Find how to get help with LG&E bills below as well as he number to call.

Thousands of local families will usually benefit from the various LG&E resources. In addition, the utility company may be able to refer low income, elderly, disabled and unemployed customers to other local agencies and assistance programs, such as those offered by a community action agency. There are even free window replacement services, AC units and other similar items for low-income LG&E families.

Financial help and grants from Louisville Gas and Electric

The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (also known as the Louisville Metro Department of Community Services) also runs the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP, which will help low income LG&E customer. Telephone (502) 574-4377.

Among other things, this federal government program assists low-income households who are facing a home heating crisis by offering seasonal and/or emergency financial assistance to prevent utility cut-off. It will also help pay for air conditioning bills or even offer a free air conditioner. Crisis assistance is available during the cold Kentucky winter for people facing disconnection of utilities or their natural gas service. Locate online applications for KY LIHEAP.

Another resource is Community Winterhelp, Inc. They also can provide emergency heating bill assistance to Kentucky families facing a disconnection of their service. Charities like the Salvation Army and local non-profits help low-income families.

The Louisville Gas and Electric Budget Payment Plan will allow people to know, in advance, the amount of their monthly LG&E bill. What the program does is it helps reduce the seasonal ups and downs normally associated with heating, cooling, and utility bills, so customers can budget easier and keep their finances on track.

The Louisville Gas and Electric Budget Payment Plan spreads your monthly energy bills over a 12-month period and level sets the amount you need to pay. That way, it's much easier for customers to factor your energy costs into your household budget, and it is available for all customers.

When a customer enrolls, the energy company will calculate an estimate of your usage for the next 12 months based on your current energy bills and also your actual usage from the previous 12 months. LG&E will then average the total of our estimate to determine your initial Budget Payment amount. A true up of your account will occur once per year if needed.

LG&E free home energy saving programs

Low-income families, seniors and the disabled are priority for free home energy savings, which can also include basic repairs as well. Louisville Gas and Electric also has referrals with local charities and churches that have volunteers to help fix a home for some families. Minor or major home updates will be done by a charity or church, and look here for free home repair handyman services.

There are free government programs such as Weatherization as well. This is offered to Louisville Gas and Electric from local non-profit agencies, and the name is WeCare. Dial 1-800-356-5467. This service can help low income customers by installing weatherization and energy conservation materials for qualified low income residents. Windows, HVAC tune ups, air duct repairs or other updates are made.

A Home Energy Analysis can also be offered, and this is when a trained energy specialist will show you how you can reduce your energy use as well as lower your monthly bills. The Louisville Metro Housing can also install weatherization materials for low income Louisville Metro residents.
