Low income financial assistance programs
Many resources for needy individuals are offered by Community Action Center Whitman County.
Crisis rental assistance - Financial aid may be issued, as funding allows, on a limited basis. The one-time financial assistance that can be paid out has a limit of $250.00 per qualified applicant. In addition, grant and fund availability is only available for families and individuals who currently have an eviction notice, funds are offered for people who have a need for paying a security deposit, and money can be used to secure housing, and pay expenses such as first months rent. Before applying, People must meet with a Family Development Specialist to determine eligibility for rent assistance, and to see if there are other possible solutions to your personal housing crisis.
Avista Share customers - Project Share and other grant programs are offered for people who need emergency assistance, and it is for customers having a shutoff notice. Read more on Washington State energy programs.
Section 8 Housing - The community action agency is the local government Section 8 agency. The program makes safe rental housing more affordable to the elderly, lower income families, working poor and disabled with limited incomes. In the section 8 housing choice voucher program, participants generally pay 30% of their total monthly income for rent expenses and utilities.
Project Share - This is an energy bill assistance program that may be able to provide emergency one time only heating assistance to local families and individuals experiencing a financial hardship or some type of emergency. Anyone having a shutoff notice from a utility provider can apply, or people who are out of heating fuel, may seek assistance. Project Share assistance is limited to $200.00 at most one time, and the assistance program may be accessed only once per calendar year at most.
